About SD Counts
South Dakota Counts is a focused statewide professional development program designed to build broad-based expertise and leadership for improving grades 4-8 mathematics instruction. South Dakota Counts will leave the statewide educational community with a cadre of very skilled professionals to serve as resources and trainers in the ongoing effort to improve mathematics instruction.

1. MATH CONTENT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING-
Rational Numbers and Ratios (Year 1): July 14-17, 2015
Algebraic Reasoning and Expressions (Year 2): June 14-17, 2016
Data, Statistics and Probability (Year 3): June 13-16, 2017
2. INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
A minimum of 24 hours per school year of professional learning.
Year 1 ED641 Instructional
Growth Mindset and a in-depth study on the book Teaching Mathematics Today.
This is a self-paced course. All assignments are due by
April 15, 2016
Year 1 ED 671
(Optional Class). This class will be offered at the TIE office in Rapid City May 31-June 3. The cost is $40 per credit. Those teachers in the MSCI cohort have the option to take the course online or face-to-face.

3. DATA USE
Each participating school will conduct three data digs (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Discussions will be on grade level work and benchmark assessments.
4. COACHING VISITS
Each participating teacher will receive a minimum of eight coaching visits. Coaching visits will include a pre-conference, classroom observation and post-conference.
